Revista Fitos
As espécies de Melaleuca L. (Myrtaceae) são importantes plantas medicinais e aromáticas, muitas das quais produtoras de óleos essenciais utilizados na indústria de cosméticos e produtos farmacêuticos em todo o mundo. Os óleos essenciais obtidos de diferentes representantes desse gênero são ricos em mono e sesquiterpenos e suas atividades farmacológicas têm sido amplamente estudadas. No entanto, as indicações clínicas não são abordadas na maioria das revisões desse grupo e mantêm-se restritas às Farmacopéias. A presente revisão tem como objetivo resumir as principais informações sobre a caracterização botânica, a fitoquímica, a farmacologia, a toxicologia e a aplicação clínica dos principais óleos essenciais obtidos de Melaleuca com potencial utilização na prática clínica.
